Gum Recontouring

Gingival Recontouring, also known as Crown Lengthening, is a surgical procedure to remove excess or unaesthetic gum tissue. Many patients look to this treatment for their gummy smile. This procedure will enhance symmetry in the gum line and reveal more tooth surface. Common aesthetic problems that can be corrected with gum recontouring include a gummy smile (excessive gingival display), uneven (asymmetrical) gum contours, and short teeth due to excessive gum coverage.

Gum recontouring can be performed alone or in combination with other restorative procedures as part of a larger cosmetic treatment plan. This one-day procedure to surgically re-contour the gum tissue can significantly change the appearance of your smile.

Dr. Robbins, Dr. Beckel and Dr. Alvarez have extensive experience performing gum recontouring. During the comprehensive dental exam and aesthetic diagnosis, your doctor will take several diagnostic measurements of the gum tissue, teeth, lips and smile. These measurements, along with your feedback from the consultation, will help the doctor decide if gum recontouring is an aesthetic solution for your smile.
